How do I calculate the odds?
The calculation of cotes is one of 3 ways of calculating your chance of winning the pot, along with fractions and percentages. Odds are expressed as a relationship (mathematical). The calculation of odds is simple because it presents the chances of winning against losing. It presents the probability as 7 against 1 becomes 7:1 which shows that there are 8 possible outcomes in which 1 is a win and 7 are a lose.
On Tilt
In Poker, if you allow your emotions overcome you in a game, you are on Tilt. This generally comes when you are about to lose a hand.
To avoid this happening (and avoid giving important information to your opponents) you must concentrate on the game, poker is a game of logic. If despite everything you are on Tilt, take a break to get your head together, come back to the table when you are calmer, and get back into the game with the right frame of mind.

Deception and Bluffing
It is very important not to bluff when you have a poor hand, it's useless. You could just lose money. On the other hand slowplaying can really pay.
If you have a very good hand at the flop, it's a good idea to make just a small bet or check at the flop to give the impression you have a weak hand and to not lose players en route (which could put more money in the pot).
When the river card appears, raise so the value of the pot goes up, then check on the turn, the other players will think you were waiting for a card that hasn't come up, and so your hand isn't that strong, or indeed that you don't have any hand at all.
Watching your opponents
There is no physical contact between players in online poker, but you can still watch the behaviour of players and build a game strategy from this.
There are small 'tells', ways of behaving, which you have to pay attention to.

- Someone who quickly checks may well have a bad hand
- In Texas Hold'em, a quick bet on the river or turn could indicate a strong hand
- A player who takes time to make a move probably has a bad hand
- A player who hesitates and then only checks almost certainly has a bad hand
